a week of film.

Friends,

I haven't blogged in such a long long time. I am not very good at it. I have however been on "tumblr" a lot lately. I'd say the main reason is because of my love for images and my inability to really produce words for what I am feeling. I think my creativity is better portrayed through images. Since I have been blogging on "tumblr", I have been immensely inspired by the different bloggers I follow and their photos. I am following a lot of people who blog or "reblog" film photography images.
This is where the inspiration part comes in.

My passion and love for photography started with my Grandpa Loren's old 35mm Pentax MX from the 60s. I took a course in Black&White photography at Columbus State Community College right before I transferred to AU and that's when it all began. Growing up I was always interested in art and visual storytelling but I didn't really think that I could be apart of it until that class at CSCC.It has been by far the most expensive and challenging class I have ever taken but It has been my favorite none the less. We learned how to manipulate the camera settings and also  how to develop the film ourselves. The dark room was probably my favorite place to be that quarter besides outside taking pictures. I never felt so challenged in my creative thinking.I highly suggest taking a Black&White photography course! Even if you don't care too much about photography - it's still interesting to see what your Grandparents and their parents had to go through to produce their own images.

Very time consuming but very rewarding.

Anyways - I am still in love my Grandpa's Pentax and have decided to give myself somewhat of a challenge. As some of you who know me really well know - I'm not the best at commitment and I usually get really excited about something for a short amount of time then move on to something else. Well - this time I want to be committed.

I've decided I am going to shoot at least one roll of film a week.

This may seem pretty simple but it is a challenge for me because I have a pretty hectic schedule and not a lot of money to buy film or get it developed. I want to be able to discover more and more about film photography and how to manipulate the settings in order to produce unique and intriguing images. One day I hope to have my own dark room. That's just a side note but I feel like if I develop more skill in film photography then I will be able to have enough knowledge to own a dark room comfortably.

So that is my challenge - and like I said ... It may not seem like a big one but It is a challenge for me. I know by learning how to produce film photos I will also learn more about digital photography and how to manipulate my DSLR more than I already do.

If anyone has any advice or would like to donate to my cause... haha just kidding. But really - any advice or inspiration would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this post - I really just wrote it because I wanted to write my thoughts out loud. Have a great ALMOST SPRING  day - hopefully I can Pentax it up today and document this glorious weather - and maybe snap a pic of one of my dreadfully missed, beloved squirrels!!!!! :)

GodBless.

My first roll of film developed in the dark room. That's me and my Granpa's Pentax.
